Special interests

I have always had a specialist interest in cancer and have been fortunate enough to work with this client group for over 20 years in a variety of hospitals and community settings.

My work with cancer has shown to me the benefits of integration at all parts of the cancer journey. Between 2017-2019 I was team lead for the Macmillan Cancer Team Project; an AHP team including OT, PT, SLT, support worker and therapy assistant. Dorset County Hospital has recognised the benefits and have made the team substantive. The team flex across the west Dorset system, being fully integrated with the community.

Therefore, my special interest is the integration across the system and being able to demonstrate the benefits of being more efficient and effective and improving patient experience across the health and social care setting.

The new D2A model is an exciting development for AHP’s putting us at the forefront of patient care across the pathway. Navigating and implementing the new model provides us with challenges but enables us to work across the system.

  • Being part of the council allow gives its members the knowledge to have those influential conversations within our organisations and professions to develop and align our roles to be able to facilitate change for AHP’s working in health and social care
  • It allows us the opportunity to discuss good practice across Dorset and nationally helping us to link our organisations and professions to allow us to maximise efficiency and effectiveness
  • To promote the roles of AHP’s within the healthcare workforce
  • To make Dorset a place that AHP’s want to work, where there are opportunities to develop within those roles enabling retention and helping with recruitment
