Role: Advanced Spinal Practitioner
Organisation: Dorset MSK service

About

  • I graduated from the University of Nottingham with a BSc (Hons) in physiotherapy in 1995 and have worked for the NHS since. During this time, I have worked predominantly in the field of musculoskeletal disorders, holding highly specialist physiotherapist posts in the fields of rheumatology, trauma and orthopaedics, and spinal disorders. This has given me experience working in a number of clinical settings, including acute and community hospitals, acute wards and orthopaedic clinics.

I have completed Masters Level study in three post graduate modules at the University of Southampton, relating to extended scope practice in physiotherapy and the use of outcome tools for measuring effective practice.

  • My ambition over the next few months is to listen to, and help as many AHPs to integrate evidence based digital technologies into their working days, to boost patient engagement to promote better outcomes, and to improve service efficiency.
  • My current role is as an advanced spinal practitioner, working for the Dorset MSK service. Taking on a new role as COVID struck made the learning curve even steeper. Like many services, we had to rapidly find new ways of caring for our patients, and this involved using remote approaches. It became clear to me during this time that we, as clinicians need to make better use of digital technologies, both for the benefit of patients and ourselves
