My name is Anna . I’m happy mum of two wonderful girls. My life can get busy at times but then I have my husband who is always there for me.

During my 12 years of experience in the NHS I have observed how compassionate nursing staff is towards patients and their families. That is when I realised that being a nurse is exactly what I would love to do. My first NHS job role was housekeeping assistant and that is where my nursing career ambitions started. Since then I have worked my way up by upskilling in and exploring various job roles. At present I work as a Community Rehabilitation Assistant (Band 3) with an Intermediate Care Team, providing support to acutely unwell patients in their own homes, preventing admissions to acute hospitals and facilitating hospital discharges to support clients and enable them to stay in their own homes at times of crisis. As much as I enjoy being part of this wonderful team, I feel that I would like to progress further clinically as my present job role has given me a clearer picture of my chosen nursing career pathway.

I have been looking for nursing degree course at BU many times however having young family which depend on my income I would never be able to train as a nurse , then I saw on DORIS leaflet about Nursing Apprenticeship information session which gave me a hope that one day I might be qualified nurse.

With support from my managers also my work colleagues and great communication from learning and development department I was able to apply for Apprenticeship programme.
I started at the beginning of February and so far it’s been amazing, OU& DHUFT working so closely together that I feel safe in practice and supported by them at all the times, OU tutors and my mentor are always there when I need them.

I feel empowered by my employer and appreciate their support in return I can reassure that excellence will be applied in to practice at all times , and maybe one day I will be able to be part of DN team .
