Salaried GP
Wyke Regis and Lanehouse Medical Practice
Closing date: 31 January 2023
Summary
Fantastic opportunity on the Dorset Coast for GP’s wanting to innovate and change general practice
Wyke Regis and Lanehouse Surgery, situated on the picturesque Jurassic Coast, are looking for a 4 – 8 session salaried GP who would like to become part of a team supporting continuity of care across a shared patient list population.
We recognise that nationally the current GP workload is untenable and are taking positive steps to improve this and transform service delivery by dividing work into “Access” and “Continuity” streams.
Access” appointments are managed by a duty team including a paramedic, care coordinator, ANP and GP.
The “Continuity” teams will include a secretary, care coordinator and advanced nurse practitioner trained in proactive care and visits. Working as part of a team, our GPs work as buddies for each other providing peer support and cross cover.
We are building an innovative GP team leading the way in working differently to achieve patient continuity and safety whilst reducing the risk of clinician burnout caused by the current overload of patient demand. We would like GPs to take a small share of the duty commitment but believe in staff working to their strengths and are open to negotiation in this respect.
We encourage GPs to develop other interests and will support professional portfolio development. Current opportunities include.
- GP New to Practice fellowship is available for newly qualified GPs https://primarycaredorset.co.uk/general-practice-fellowship-programmes/
- Support to become a GP trainer or GP mentor at the practice
- GP leadership programme opportunity if you are considering becoming a partner
- Opportunity to specialise in Minor ops, vasectomy or IUCD clinics
- GPwSI in an area of clinical interest where there is mutual benefit for the population.
The practice serves a population of 15,500 in the West of Weymouth over 3 sites. The practice has 2 partners and 6 salaried GPs, 1 paramedic practitioner, 5 ANPS and a full nursing team. We make full use of PCN ARRS roles and have access to Community in house physiotherapist and pharmacy teams. Our care home patients are looked after by the Weymouth Elderly care team as are some frail housebound patients. Weymouth has an integrated frailty hub which supports acute social need and has an acute Frail and elderly visiting hub that supports most visit requests coming into the practice.
Weymouth is in an area of Outstanding natural beauty and offers a fantastic quality of life for you and your family. Weymouth has a beautiful old harbour, steeped in history with a vibrant café and restaurant culture. The practice is up the road from the famous Chesil beach and on a good day you can see across the sea to the iconic Durdle Door coastline from many parts of the Wyke Regis area. Weymouth beaches are sandy and the waters shallow making them ideal playgrounds for young children. The National Water sports centre, home of the 2012 London Olympics is also just down the road as the conditions are perfect for sailing, kite surfing and windsurfing. Hiking, cycling, sea swimming and triathlon are also popular local sports.
Weymouth also benefits from great transport links with London, Devon & Cornwall accessible within a couple of hours
Please contact Ann Klust practice manager on Ann.klust@dorsetgp.nhs.uk for informal enquiries and to arrange a visit or telephone call.
