Fantastic opportunity on the Dorset Coast for GP’s
Wyke Regis and Lanehouse Surgery, situated on the picturesque Jurassic Coast, are looking for a part time salaried GP to support the duty team 2-3 days a week. Expected duty session would run from 11am -6.30 pm, some flexibility would be considered.
This role would suit either a newly qualified GP wanting to work in a team without the additional administration burden or a more experienced candidate. As such the role can be shaped to include mentoring and, on the day, clinical support where required or opportunities to develop areas of special interest, training, and mentoring roles – Salary will depend on experience
The duty GPs role would primarily be to support decision making, clinical development and prescribing pathways for the duty team which includes 2x triage practitioners and 1-2 nurse practitioners. The GP would also take responsibility for calls that were more appropriately dealt with by a GP. The Duty GP IS NOT responsible for the whole list, this responsibility is managed by the whole team and as such fosters an excellent team spirit.
All urgent calls coming into the surgery are triaged by the duty triage practitioner (paramedic) and then allocated according to need to a nurse practitioner, paramedic, or GP. There is a locality visiting service which support visits for complex patients, other visits coming into the surgery are dealt with by the most appropriate person according to the triage practitioner.
As a duty GP you would not have a patient list, paperwork would be minimal but would include dealing with urgent bloods or letters received by the practice, urgent admissions, referrals for that day and urgent prescriptions.
Practice econsults are managed by a non-clinical assistant and time would be allocated each day to sit with the assistant and support the triage econsult requests
The practice has a progressive outlook and is keen to develop further pathways to improve efficiency and patient safety and reduce the burden on the GP, as such we have GP assistants allocated to each GP.
The practice serves a population of 15,050 in the West of Weymouth over 3 sites. The practice has 2 partners and 6 salaried GPs, 4 paramedic practitioners, 5 ANPS and a full nursing team. We make full use of PCN ARRS roles and have access to Community in house physiotherapist and pharmacy teams. Our care home patients are looked after by the Weymouth Elderly care team as are some frail housebound patients. Weymouth has an integrated frailty hub which supports acute social need and has an acute Frail and elderly visiting hub that supports most visit requests coming into the practice.
Weymouth is in an area of Outstanding natural beauty and offers a fantastic quality of life for you and your family. Weymouth has a beautiful old harbour, steeped in history with a vibrant café and restaurant culture. The practice is up the road from the famous Chesil beach and on a good day you can see across the sea to the iconic Durdle Door coastline from many parts of the Wyke Regis area. Weymouth beaches are sandy and the waters shallow making them ideal playgrounds for young children. The National Water sports centre, home of the 2012 London Olympics is also just down the road as the conditions are perfect for sailing, kite surfing and windsurfing. Hiking, cycling, sea swimming and triathlon are also popular local sports.
Weymouth also benefits from great transport links with London, Devon & Cornwall accessible within a couple of hours
