The Acute Care Inpatient Team at St. Ann’s Hospital in Poole, Dorset have vacancies for Registered Mental Health Nurses on Haven Ward PICU. Haven Ward is a 12 bed male and female Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), which is divided into two separate gendered areas.

Full time night shifts are available.

On Haven Ward we aim to provide a high level of effective and compassionate care, delivered by skilled and happy team members in a safe and secure environment. We utilise a range of interventions to ensure we adhere to best practice and provide excellent care to our patients at all times.

We believe that physical health is as just important as mental health and have developed an innovative physical health team on the ward in order to meet our patients’ physical health needs, a service which the CQC described on a recent visit as ''ground-breaking''.

We are looking for suitably qualified and caring individuals who wish to work in a fast paced and challenging environment. You will have excellent clinical skills and be a team player who is emotionally intelligent and able to remain calm when managing potentially testing situations.

We would welcome applications from newly qualified nurses and we provide a very comprehensive and fully supported Preceptorship Programme for newly qualified healthcare professionals

This post requires that you work a shift pattern although we do offer the chance to work long days. You will always work alongside at least one other qualified mental health nurse and there is a Clinical Team Leader rostered to work every day.

In return for joining us on Haven you will become a valued member of our multi-disciplinary team and have a say in how our service develops. We are friendly, supportive and promote a calm and therapeutic approach, enabling patients to overcome their current difficulties and move forwards with their recovery.

We offer a full PICU induction programme to all new staff members on joining the ward and following successful completion of your 3 month probation period you will meet with your supervisor to discuss your personal development plan which will identify your learning and training needs, so we can ensure you have all the skills you need to be the best you can be in your role. As befits a specialist service there will be opportunities to train in areas such as DBT, enhanced risk assessment and physical health interventions.

We are dedicated to providing innovative and specialist care and as a member of the National Association of Psychiatric Intensive Care Units we regularly attend national conferences in order to learn from our colleagues across the country and to share best practice, something which you will be encouraged to take part in.

This is an exciting opportunity for nurses who would like to utilise their skills in a specialist environment, caring for people with a wide variety of presenting problems and needs. We guarantee that no two days will be the same and that you will be helping to make a real difference to our patients lives.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in then please apply!

In return;

  • We will support and facilitate your development in this role through regular supervision and a development plan tailored to your needs and experience
  • You will receive a comprehensive and structured PICU induction programme and training
  • Monthly pay plus enhancements for night, weekend and bank holiday working
  • NHS pension scheme
  • Holiday pay for up to 33 days (dependent on NHS service), plus bank holidays
  • NHS discount and salary sacrifice scheme
