Want to be part of the new NHS? Health and Care organisations in Dorset are at the forefront of transforming services to provide excellent, patient-centred care.

Dorset HealthCare plays a pivotal role in the strong partnership of public sector organisations across Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole. Our community and mental health trust has a caring and committed workforce of around 5,500 staff, serving a population of over 700,000 people.

We are looking for proactive, positive, respectful, supportive, reliable and trustworthy people to join us at Dorset HealthCare – we’re the biggest provider of healthcare in Dorset and offer exciting opportunities for people with a range of skills. We want to be better every day – do you?

‘This is an exciting time for us as we continue improving and adapting. I have seen some great innovation, fantastic teamwork and a real willingness to look at how we can do things differently’ – Eugine Yafele, Chief Executive (May 2019)

Want to join a team achieving good recovery rates? If so, why not join the Steps to Wellbeing Service as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP).

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and vibrant Low Intensity Team offering great opportunities for continuing professional development and flexible ways of working.

Steps to Wellbeing is a busy, dynamic and progressive service with a friendly and supportive team of qualified clinicians and staff in training. The role itself is both demanding and rewarding; providing psychological interventions to people with mild to moderate common mental health problems in primary care.

As part of the national IAPT expansion to fulfil the requirements of the Five Year Forward View, Steps to Wellbeing also has opportunity to be part of the exciting long term health conditions expansion team.

Applicants therefore need to be proficient in the delivery of CBT based guided self-help interventions and have experience of working with common mental health problems in a primary care setting. A Post Graduate Certificate in Evidence Based Psychological Therapies (IAPT) is also essential.

These posts will cover Southampton, Poole, and the surrounding area including North and West Dorset as part of a Pan Dorset service. There is expectation that the job holder will be flexible to cover these areas as required by the service.

As well as joining a supportive team in an essential role, we can also offer you: • A comprehensive and structured induction programme and training. • NHS pension scheme • Holiday Pay • NHS discount and salary sacrifice scheme

Don’t just take our word for it though, a recent testimonial from a member of the team had this to say about the Steps to Wellbeing Service:

I was surprised by how organised and calm everything felt. The PWP role can be stressful at times but I no longer felt the extra pressure I had felt in my previous service, mainly due to the fact that Steps to Wellbeing is managed well and there is strong leadership. The regular supervision means that I have felt supported and given a chance to share any concerns I have which are always taken seriously. This allowed me to actually enjoy my job again and remember why I trained in the first place... On a more personal level the team at Steps to Wellbeing are incredibly welcoming and kind. It makes a big difference to have someone supportive to talk to following a difficult appointment, or even just someone to make you a cup of tea if you’re behind on your admin. Even though everyone in the team takes their work seriously there is a light hearted atmosphere in the office that allows a chance to de-stress after intense appointments. I would highly recommend working at Steps to Wellbeing as the experience of working in an IAPT service can vary and this is definitely the most positive experience I have had.”

If you are interested in moving to Dorset we also offer a generous relocation package of up to £5,000. For further details on relocation expenses please email

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The DBS levies a charge of £44 and the Trust will recover this cost in instalments from your first 3 salary payments. This will only apply to candidates who are new to the Trust and not internal staff.

Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service and are able to present a valid DBS certificate will not incur a charge.
