Practitioner Psychologist – Clinical / Counselling - Band 8a

Liaison Psychiatry Service, Royal Bournemouth Hospital

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for highly motivated and dynamic psychologists to join our Liaison Psychiatry Service.

There is a post available in each of the teams, based at Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

These are new posts created as part of the significant expansion of the teams into an all age service, to meet the national Core 24 model. You will join a highly skilled and supportive MDT including Consultant Psychiatrists, Mental Health Nurses and trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioners, CAMHS practitioners and support workers.

The role will include a combination of direct clinical work – psychological assessment and formulation with brief interventions - and consultation / supervision for the clinical team. The service is currently undergoing a period of rapid development, and the post holder would have the opportunity to be involved in this.

The Liaison teams take referrals from a variety of sources, including the Emergency Department and wards within the hospital. Patients seen may present with mental health problems, self-harm and psychosomatic disorders as well as a variety of psychological issues relating to physical disorder.

The services strive for clinical excellence and are working towards reaccreditation with the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCP) Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Network.

The post is for 30 hours a week, but this is negotiable and flexible working requests will always be considered.

The post will be clinically supported by an 8b Lead Clinical Psychologist for Access Mental Health.

We are proud to say that you will be joining Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust who has recently been awarded “Outstanding” by the Clinical Quality Commission.

We also offer;

  • You will receive a comprehensive and structured induction programme and training
  • Monthly pay plus enhancements for night, weekend and bank holiday working
  • NHS Pension scheme
  • Health & Wellbeing service
  • Holiday pay of up to 33 days, plus bank holidays pro rata, dependent on service
  • NHS discounts
  • Salary sacrifice scheme including work related learning, childcare vouchers, cars, cycles, home technology equipment and buying and selling of annual leave
  • Not forgetting our unique selling point – our Trust beach huts located along the famous Sandbanks coastline.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The DBS levies a charge of £40 and the Trust will recover this cost in instalments from your first 3 salary payments. This will only apply to candidates who are new to the Trust and not internal staff.

Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service and are able to present a valid DBS certificate will not incur a charge.

Please view the attached 'Job Description' and 'Person Specification' for full information on this vacancy.

Interview date: To be confirmed – provisionally week beginning 16 November 2020.
