Wimborne Hospital – GP Lead for In-patients and Hub

Dorset HealthCare is the first mental health trust providing community services in the South to be given an Outstanding rating by the care quality commission (CQC) – and one of only a small handful nationally.

We are looking for a part-time GP interested in caring for frail and elderly patients, for 3-4 days a week at Wimborne Hospital.

We would love to welcome you to Dorset HealthCare… beautiful countryside, the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, some of the best weather in the UK, Dorset makes for a happy place to live and work.

Our medical team of doctors and nurse practitioners work closely as part of our integrated team to provide holistic care for patients on our wards. We are also looking to develop the role of the community hospital as part of the integrated community team, by participating in the work of the East Dorset Virtual Ward, which aims to maximise the care of frail and elderly patients in their own home.

As part of this integration work, we are looking to enhance the role of Wimborne Hospital as an alternative to acute hospital admission. Our in-patients fit into 3 categories: step-down patients for rehab from local acute hospitals; step-up patients from the community requiring investigation and medical management of problems; end of life care.

This role will support the development of step-up care into Wimborne Hospital, as well as providing medical support to community staff, including community matrons and advanced practitioners, supporting patients in their own homes.

The East Dorset Hub is a proactive, integrated, forward-thinking team, motivated to develop services around the needs of local patients. We work together to achieve true integration, always having the patient at its centre.

At Dorset HealthCare we strive to be ‘Better Every Day’ and our vision is to be recognised as an inspiring leader for excellence, compassion and expertise in all that we do. Our purpose is to provide integrated healthcare services that empower people to make the most of their lives.

Interview date to be confirmed.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The DBS levies a charge of £40 and the Trust will recover this cost in instalments from your first 3 salary payments. This will only apply to candidates who are new to the Trust and not internal staff.
