Children and Young People (CYP) Public Health Service

Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) Students (Health Visiting)

In Dorset we have a proven record of successfully training Health Visitors and School Nurses. Dorset is a beautiful county offering experience of working in rural as well as urban areas. Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust (DHC) has close ties with the University of Surrey and has gained an excellent reputation in the training of 0-19yrs Specialist Community Public Health Nurses -all of whom have acquired jobs in the NHS following completion of their course.

DHC highly values the contribution that the 0-19yrs CYP Public Health Service makes to improving outcomes for children, young people and their families, using evidence-based, early intervention strategies.

We have the opportunity to offer Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) Health Visiting training. The successful candidates will be appointed to a one year, fixed term training post at Band 5 commencing on 19th September 2022.

The CYP Public Health service is delighted to offer this exciting opportunity in partnership with the University of Surrey. The programme comprises 50% practical learning in a Health Visiting team within the county of Dorset and 50% academic studies. Students will be supported to attend the University of Surrey with mileage costs from base to University and accommodation where the student attends two consecutive academic study days. Students will be fully supported in clinical practice by a qualified Community Practice Assessor. The placement available will be in Weymouth, Dorset.

Entry requirements:

You must be currently registered as a healthcare professional to apply.

BSc (Hons) Students will normally hold a previously accumulated credit volume of 120 FHEQ Level 5 credits and 120 FHEQ Level 4 credits. Students who do not meet these requirements should seek advice from the Faculty as it may not exclude you from applying.

MSc: A UK honours degree, or a recognised equivalent international qualification. Please follow the links in the attached document for more information.
