We are looking to appoint a new colleague to the Orthodontics Department at the new University Hospitals Dorset, resulting from the merger between the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH) and Poole General Hospital (PGH.)

This is a new permanent post for a full-time (10PA) consultant orthodontist. We are keen to hear from all excellent candidates and we encourage applicants wishing to work flexibly or less than full-time to discuss their desired working pattern.

The successful applicant will have a new patient caseload and the opportunity to determine treatment plans and see patients through their entire pathway. There is a consistent flow of referrals into the service from four specialist practices in the surrounding area and dentists with a specialist interest.

We are therefore looking for a motivated individual who has strong leadership skills and is able to work with staff and patients effectively to develop services and continue to provide a high quality service. The service is situated on the Bournemouth Site with a fully staffed laboratory and dental radiology service within the department. The team is hard working and consists of dental nurses, oral health educators; specialty doctors, medical secretaries, receptionists, lab technicians as well as volunteers who support the department. We work closely with maxillofacial colleagues situated at Poole Hospital and jointly provide an orthognathic pathway.

The department focuses on the diagnosis, treatment planning of secondary care orthodontics for the treatment of complex multi-disciplinary cases at level 3b. The department provides out-patient care for children, adolescents and adults.

The department receives orthodontic referrals from orthodontic specialists, paediatric specialists, oral and maxillofacial surgery, general dental practitioners and community dental services. We work closely with our colleagues at The Spires Cleft Centre based in Salisbury for complex cases. We also refer to colleagues at Guys and Kings as required.

This is a fantastic time to consider a move to University Hospitals Dorset and to find work/life balance in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with the beach 10 minutes away and the wonderful New Forest only 20 minutes away. We are really looking forward to hearing from you!

If you’d like to visit and work with us, we are very happy to arrange a working visit for you to see the hospital, meet the team & absorb what working in Dorset would be like. Travel and accommodation will be organised by us and we look forward to showing you everything Bournemouth has to offer you! We have a great relocation package available and we are very happy to discuss any queries/concerns you may have.
