We recently went into partnership with Bournemouth University and, with the merger of Poole Hospital and Royal Bournemouth & Christchurch Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts, became University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust this is a really exciting time to join us!

Clinical Fellow in Medicine for the Elderly

 

The Department of Elderly Medicine:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registrar level doctor to work in the Department of Medicine for the Elderly for 12 months

The Department of Medicine for the Elderly is a busy department with a dedicated admissions unit, an expanding community service and a number of downstream wards all providing multi-disciplinary care for older patients. The department also provides dedicated input to patients within the ortho-geriatrics service. Poole Hospital carries out the largest number of operations for # neck of femur in the country. There is also a specialist Movement Disorders outpatient service for Older Patients operating alongside neurology. In addition stroke services form part of the directorate with daily TIA clinics, an acute stroke unit and a rehabilitation unit. This post will include on call/out of Hours work as part of the medical registrar rota.

Duties of this post include:

  • Providing care to inpatients including new admissions
  • Supervision and support of junior medical colleagues and Advanced Nurse practitioners
  • Maintaining continued professional development
  • Attending ward multidisciplinary meetings
  • Attending and contributing to educational sessions and Clinical Governance meetings
  • Partaking in departmental Quality Improvement work
    • Teaching Medical and Physician’s Associates students
    • Participating in the hospital appraisal process as part of ongoing professional development

 

Medical Staff and ANPs

The department currently has 12 consultants and a large number of junior doctors as well as an established body of Advanced Nurse Practitioners running the ambulatory clinic service (with consultant support) and inputting onto wards. Junior doctor feedback for the job is excellent and rates the department as highly supportive.
