Associate Colorectal Cancer Nurse Specialist - Developmental Role

Band 5 progressing to 6

Fulltime 37.5 hrs/wk

Are you looking for career progression in a specialist nursing role?

Do you have an interest in colorectal cancer, surgery and oncology?

We are looking for a dedicated, motivated and enthusiastic registered nurse to join our colorectal cancer nursing team. The successful candidate will work with our established nursing team and wider MDT in supporting patients with colorectal cancer throughout their treatment, providing individualised and compassionate care. As a key worker they will coordinate care pathways and provide specialist psychological support and symptom management for patients to ensure timely treatment is given and quality of life is maximised.

Dorset County Hospital is a bowel cancer screening centre and has an established straight to test referral pathway for patients with bowel symptoms. There is a new cancer centre onsite providing both chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment. Supported self-management and the cancer recovery package are in place for patients following colorectal cancer treatment. The post holder will complete care plans and treatment summaries as well as contribute to health and wellbeing events.

This is a challenging role that requires a self motivated and dedicated individual who will take advantage of the opportunities available to achieve the core cancer CNS competencies. Support and education will be provided with funding for a cancer module at level 6/7.

Although the post is based in surgery the role will include collaborative working with our oncology, chemotherapy and palliative care teams. Applicants will be expected to have excellent communication skills and relevant post-registration experience in colorectal, surgery or oncology nursing.
