Foundation Pharmacist: Rotational

Band 6: 1.0 WTE Permanent

An opportunity has arisen for a Pharmacist to join our established, friendly and progressive Clinical Pharmacy team at Dorset County Hospital. We are looking for an ambitious, highly motivated and dynamic Pharmacist wanting to develop their knowledge and skills and progress their career in clinical pharmacy. You may be a newly (provisionally) qualified Pharmacist or looking for fresh challenge.

We provide a supportive learning environment with excellent training and development opportunities. We take your professional and personal development seriously. The successful candidate will be encouraged and supported to undertake the post-graduate clinical diploma. We also encourage and support our pharmacists to undertake the non-medical prescribing Programme.

The Clinical Pharmacy team comprises Pharmacists, Medicines Management Technicians and Trainees. When working in Pharmacy and at ward level you will be supervised and supported by a variety of clinical and technical staff and will be part an experienced team. You will be a highly valued member of the Pharmacy and and committed to delivering outstanding medicines management.

The training programme is based on the foundation level framework with rotations in the first year covering core areas: medicine, surgery, paediatrics, older people and dispensary services. Following this, rotations are 4-monthly and include the following clinical areas:

  • Acute medicine & Medical Day Unit
  • Cardiology
  • Respiratory
  • Medicine for Older People
  • Surgery (emergency)
  • Aseptics
  • Cancer services
  • Renal Services

The post includes late duties, weekend working and participation in the bank holiday and on-call rota.

Dorchester has a vibrant social scene including the new Brewery Square development, shops, restaurants, cinemas, festivals and local farmers markets. Direct trains link London (2.5hrs), Weymouth (10mins) and the South West including Bristol and Bath. The Jurassic Coastline, an area of outstanding natural beauty, and the National Sailing Academy are only eight miles away.

At September 2020, in line with government advice on social distancing, interviews are being conducted via Microsoft Teams rather than face to face.

The Trust and Trust Executive have undertaken a whole systems overview to ensure the safety of patients and staff during the current COVID-19 Pandemic. As part of this, each department including pharmacy, has undertaken a risk assessment to ensure a COVID secure work environment.

Within pharmacy risk assessment processes have been completed and a number of measures were introduced to protect staff. Risk assessments have been undertaken for all staff.
