An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly team at Dorset County Hospital.
An enthusiasm and interest for all areas of Histopathology is essential. Experience in routine Histology techniques such as microtomy/special staining as well as an understanding of the importance and value of the regulatory requirements is essential. A broader knowledge and experience of BMS tissue transfer, routine immunohistochemistry staining, diagnostic non-gynae cytopathology and andrology is welcomed as this will be required of the role with training provided. All applicants must have HCPC registration.
Dorset County Hospital Foundation Trust is the leading provider of healthcare in West Dorset, and the Histopathology department provides a full diagnostic service to the acute hospital, as well as the community services in the West Dorset area. The Histopathology team are a friendly, welcoming group of approximately 25 staff who are committed to the provision of a high-quality service. The Histopathology department currently holds UKAS Accreditation for its Histopathology and Non-Gynae Cytology services, and is in the process of achieving UKAS accreditation for its Andrology service. The post holder will work with the other members of the department to maintain and develop a quality, timely and patient focused Histopathology service for the local population.
Once fully trained, the post holder would be expected to support the on-call service to ensure the safety of specimens processing overnight, including Bank Holidays and weekends.
This is an exciting time to join the Pathology team at Dorset County Hospital. We are currently making great progress with our vision to create a first class integrated pathology service for Dorset.
The ‘One Dorset Pathology’ service for Dorset County Hospital, Poole Hospital and The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals will provide clinicians, patients and carers with a consistent and high standard of service across the area and maximise efficiency in the use of resources.
Staff will be able to develop to their full potential and substantial investment has been agreed, offering opportunities for service development and state-of-the-art modernization.
