You’ll also have easy access to the Dorset countryside, renowned for its areas of outstanding natural beauty and the spectacular Jurassic Coast, ideal for sports and outdoor activities.
Poole Hospital is one of the largest employers in the region and highly regarded across the NHS, consistently featuring within the top twenty per cent in both national patient and staff satisfaction surveys. We pride ourselves on positive team work, professional development and support staff to reach their fullest potential. All of this is underpinned by our unique philosophy, The Poole Approach, which pledges that we will strive at all times to provide friendly, professional, person-centred care with dignity and respect for all.
This is an exciting time for our staff, following a recent review of healthcare services in Dorset which will see major changes to the way healthcare is provided in our region. As one of the two acute NHS providers in the east of the county, our services will be closely linked to those provided at the Royal Bournemouth & Christchurch Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We’re working in close collaboration to deliver excellent emergency and planned care over the two sites, for the people of east Dorset.
Due to retirement applications are invited for a Consultant Neurologist to start as soon as possible.
The post holder will be based at the Neurology Centre for Dorset in Poole Hospital and will also provide clinical services at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester. The appointee will join the existing five consultant neurologists, three consultant neurophysiologists, and one consultant in neurological rehabilitation.
In addition to providing the general neurology service across Dorset at three separate trusts (Poole, Dorset County and the Royal Bournemouth Hospitals), the Dorset Neurology Service, run from Poole Hospital, provides sub-speciality clinics in Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, headache and multiple sclerosis which are supported by specialist nurses. There are established multidisciplinary clinics for MND and PSP. There is share of a dedicated ward (Portland ward) with neurorehabilitation, a neurology StR, a neuro-rehabilitation StR and a Foundation Trainee. The department has established links with the Wessex Neurological Centre in Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis and Movement Disorders. A specialist interest to compliment those already established would be welcomed and the development of links with the regional service are encouraged. Specialist CPD is available at the Regional Centre in Southampton.

We consistently feature within the top twenty per cent in both national patient and staff satisfaction surveys. Poole Hospital has also been voted as one of the top 100 hospitals to work for by the Nursing Times and was named the best hospital for patient experience in the 2010 Healthcare Excellence & Leadership Awards.
