Functioning well during this pandemic is challenging for us all, regardless of our job role or where we work. You and your team are doing fabulous work round the clock, supporting people living in Dorset and making sure they get the best services possible.

In turn, we want to make sure that we do everything possible to support you at a time when you might forget to look after yourself while prioritising everybody else’s needs… does that sound familiar?!

We are working together to look after all  staff – whatever their role – working tirelessly for:

  • Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole Council
  • Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group
  • Dorset Council
  • Dorset County Hospital
  • Dorset HealthCare
  • Dorset’s primary care networks
  • Independent care providers in the BCP and Dorset Council areas
  • South Western Ambulance Service
  • Tricuro
  • University Hospitals Dorset

Our staff wellbeing service truly believes that we need to be “Here For Each Other”. We are implementing plans to complement and enhance the wellbeing support already in place within each partner organisation.

We are delighted that Dorset is one of only 14 Integrated Care System teams across the country to have won national funding to provide an enhanced staff wellbeing offer of this kind.

How to access support from the “Here For Each Other” staff wellbeing service

You can access support easily, in one of two ways:

  • Our website

This website brings together advice and guidance from trusted sources to help you manage your own wellbeing. It will also signpost you, if needed, to your employer’s existing support systems. And the website is the starting point for you to refer yourself or a colleague to the Wellbeing Hub for more support.

  • Our Wellbeing Hub

Ring us on 01202 130130 or email us using our online referral form to discuss how we could help you with some bespoke 1-1 support.

It’s often hard for us to seek help for ourselves… we feel guilty… think we should be coping… that other people’s needs come first. However, this last year has been incredibly challenging with all of us having to balance the demands of work with the needs of our family. Some of us will have been home schooling, others may be shielding, some people might not find working at home easy, or be worried about getting infected while at work, or we may have had a bereavement. Working long hours while juggling all of this can be exhausting.

Seeking help at this time is not a sign of failure. It is a necessary way of topping up the engine so that the car can keep moving forward.

We are here to help

Our Wellbeing Hub has coaches and clinicians trained in mental and physical health. They are available to listen in a totally non-judgemental way and, if needed, suggest ways of accessing further support. We have a spectrum of offers, ranging from wellbeing coaching to physiotherapy, counselling, psychological therapy and mental health… in fact, there’s something here for everyone and whether you feel you need gentle hand-holding or a complete overhaul, we are here to help.

Here For Each Other staff wellbeing service Q&A

Who is this service for?

It’s for any member of staff working in any role for the NHS, the two unitary councils, and the care sector in Dorset. It’s designed to complement employers’ existing wellbeing support. If you’ve already explored what your own organisation offers and need more, or you would rather approach external support, we’re here for you.

I don’t know what I need, is this the right service for me?

We’re skilled in asking the right questions. Our assessment will identify what you need and across the team we can work together to design the best support for you.

How are you different from what’s already available?

We have a collaborative approach with our partner organisations and are here to complement – not replace – the wellbeing support you can already access from your employer. We also want the service to be flexible and responsive, adding extra capacity and services where we discover there’s a gap or a need.

What type of support could I get?

It totally depends on the outcome of the initial assessment. We offer a variety of support, ranging from simple advice and guidance, through to a bespoke treatment plan, signposting or access to other physical or mental health services. We will talk through the options with you and agree a way forward together.

Will what I tell you be kept confidential?

Yes – like any NHS service, any information you give us will be held in line with Information Governance.

Will I have to wait long to get support?

Referrals are monitored and the phone line is staffed 8am-4pm Monday-Friday. We will acknowledge your referral within 72 hours. An initial assessment will take place within seven days of the acknowledgment.

What experience do the people in the service have?

The Here For Each Other staff wellbeing service team

We have a multi-disciplinary team of experienced staff, with specialists in a variety of fields. We work together, combining our collective expertise and experience in mental and physical health. We like to consider a person’s complete wellbeing – their mental and physical wellbeing are inextricably linked. Find out more about the team.

What happens when I ring the Hub or submit a referral form?

If you ring the Hub we’ll take your details and talk you through series of questions to understand why you’re calling. That info is passed onto an appropriate clinical member of the team who will call you for assessment.

  • If you send a referral form through the website your first contact will be with a clinical member of the team.
  • If you refer a colleague through the website a team member will follow up with a phone call before an assessment.
  • If you refer a team through the website a team member will follow up with a phone call to the team leader.

I’ve heard there’s MSK support on offer. What does that mean in practice?

The physios in our team are focused on health promotion. We can complete assessment and offer support, motivation and guidance to improve your overall health. We adopt a proactive approach to workplace wellbeing and focus on prevention, as well as being highly responsive to individual and team needs.

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, our physios work alongside psychological support to deliver a person-centred, whole mind and body approach. We understand that exercise and movement are essential to health, and this service allows us to holistically address issues.

Our team can offer support and guidance on musculoskeletal issues, and make sure you are being signposted to the right service as well as giving advice in the meantime.

We work closely with many other services across Dorset to help with streamlined access to services, and to make sure you can access the most suitable service at the earliest point possible.

Some of the services that we offer are:

  • Postural awareness course
  • Relaxation
  • Yoga and pilates sessions
  • Movement and wellbeing contracts
  • Motivation and guidance on how to return to or increase exercise safely
  • Manual handling issues/ advice – signposting or supporting
  • MSK assessment, advice and support
  • Advice regarding sleep
  • Ergonomic advice
  • Exercise prescription

This list is not exhaustive, and we are keen to work with you to develop bespoke solutions for you or your team.
