“I’m gaining experience while I study”

Ellie is a mental health support worker at Pebble Lodge, the inpatient hospital run by Dorset CAMHS.

Currently studying for a psychology degree through the Open University, Ellie joined Dorset CAMHS after working with young people as a volunteer on charity projects.

‘I love my work here,’ she explains, ‘and it’s giving me clinical experience of working in a mental health setting whilst I study. It’s perfect!’

Ellie’s role involves supporting children and young people during their stay at the hospital, lending a hand with practical tasks, study and activities, including arts and crafts.

‘I get to use my creative skills in art activities,’ she enthuses, ‘and we go out during the week to do activities such as paddle boarding and climbing, which is so much fun.’
