Nurse prescribers or non-medial prescribers working in CAMHS are qualified CAMHS practitioners (often mental health nurses) who undertake specialist training in ‘psychopharmacology’ (the effect of medications in treating mental health conditions).

Non-medial prescribers support the medical staff in the CAMHS team and are able to provide medication to supplement therapeutic treatments.

Qualifications

Non-medical prescribers will usually come from a ‘core profession’ such as mental health nursing and will have undertaken academic and clinical qualifications as appropriate for that profession. They will also have undertaken further specialist training in psychopharmacology.

Experience

Non-medical prescribers will have substantial experience in working with children and young people in a mental health setting as part of their professional career.

Other roles that might be of interest

CBT therapists might also be interested in other CAMHS practitioner roles or could move into a leadership role in CAMHS.
