About the opportunity
Several NHS and Pharmacy organisations in Dorset are working together to provide education and work placements for student Pharmacy Technicians. The training programme will enable you to experience working in a variety of different pharmaceutical environments giving you the opportunity to learn about the different areas you could work in as a qualified Pharmacy Technician.
This is a 2 year apprenticeship training post which will help you learn and practice the skills needed to become a registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
As an apprentice Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT) you will rotate through different types of pharmacy services and experience the work of a Pharmacy Technician in different settings. A wide variety of training opportunities are available. These range from training in one environment only e.g. Hospital Pharmacy to cross sector training in up to three different healthcare settings which may include:
- Primary Care (GP practices)
- Community pharmacy (high-street pharmacies)
- Hospital pharmacy including inpatient services
- Community and Mental Health Services

- Full time, 37.5 hours per week. A minimum of 30 hours per week may be considered.
- The post holder may be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
Where
Opportunities are available to train in one organisation only or to combine educational learning across different NHS and Pharmacy Organisations. Therefore there will be several different adverts allowing you to apply for the type of training opportunity you would prefer. If you choose to apply for a cross sector training opportunity the placements available would be discussed with you in more detail at interview.
When
PTPT training programmes usually start in February and September each year.
