Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic salaried GP, or salaried GP with good prospects for partnership, working 5 sessions across 3 days (but we would welcome a discussion about alternative working patterns). As a high-earning practice, we will offer a competitive salary to the right applicant.

Reporting to:                              a). The Practice GP Partners on clinical matters

b).  The Practice Manager on organisational / administrative issues.

 

Hours of work:                           5 sessions per week (Mondays and Thursdays all day and Wednesday mornings) and some Enhanced Access Saturday mornings.

Contract type:                           Permanent contract.

 

Role summary:                          The post-holder will provide general medical services and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

 

Location:                                      Ringwood Medical Centre, The Close, Ringwood, BH24 1JY.

 

Annual leave:                            Six weeks annual leave plus public / bank holidays. Actual leave is calculated pro rata dependant on start date to end of usual leave year or to end of contract whichever is the earliest.

Study leave:                               Please refer to the Contract of Employment.  (Study leave is calculated pro rata dependant on start date to end of usual leave year or to end of contract whichever is the earliest).

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:   

To support the GP partners, salaried GPs, the Practice Manager, the nursing and administration team to deliver a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting. The appointee will also have the opportunity to take part in leading on key disease areas (monitoring trends in treatment, staff training and prescribing) and assist in developing appropriate healthcare services for a diverse patient list. This is a GMS Practice currently with 11,100 registered patients.

The Partnership is a member of the Hampshire Isle of Wight ICB

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:      

  1. In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him / herself available to undertake a variety of duties including face-to-face consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, patient test results, patient medical reports and examinations (e.g. DWP Reports) on behalf of the Practice, paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner;
  1. Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation;
  2. Recording clear and contemporaneous I.T. based consultation notes to agreed standards;
  1. Collecting data for audit purposes;
  1. Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible);
  1. Prescribing in accordance with locally agreed or national guidelines;
  1. In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

 

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES WITH THE PRACTICE:

 

  1. Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, annual QOF Assessment of the Practice;
  1. Participate in any internal or external inspections or audit processes;
  1. A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice;
  1. Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation;
  1. Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records;
  1. Attending training, Practice Meetings and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate;
  1. Meet all tight timescales/deadlines for audits and written returns to ensure that the Practice meets quality standards and receives the designated funding (e.g. Quarterly Enhanced Services returns, annual QOF audit etc.)

  1. In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately;
  1. In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential.

In addition to maintaining continued education through attendance at any courses and/or study days necessary to ensure that professional development requirements are met, the post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, such training to include:

  1. Participation in an annual individual performance review, annual GP Appraisal including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and / or professional development as well as re-validation where appropriate;
  1. Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work.

The post-holder will strive to maintain quality within the practice, and will:

  1. Alert other team members to issues of Clinical Governance issues, quality and risk; participate in Significant Event Analysis reviews.
  1. Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions, either directly or under supervision;
  1. Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the team’s performance;
  1. Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients’ needs;
  1. Effectively manage own time, workload and resources. He/she will also contribute to the overall team-working of the Practice putting the needs of the Practice first.

COMMUNICATION

 

The post-holder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to:

  1. Communicate effectively with other team members;
  1. Communicate effectively with patients and carers;
  1. Recognise people’s needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.

CONTRIBUTION TO PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTING SERVICES  

The post-holder will:

  1. Apply practice policies, standards and guidance;
  1. Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work;
  1. Participate in audit where appropriate.
  1. Work with the Partners and Management Team to achieve standards of quality, performance standards, budgets and targets without compromising levels of patient healthcare.
  1. Contribute towards the development and implementation of new standards, policies and procedures that are/will be required of GP Practices now and in the future (as directed by NHSE / PHE / CCG, new legislation etc.)

PRIMARY CARE

The post-holder should have an interest and enthusiasm in developing their career in primary health care and general practice, in addition to an interest in continuing professional development. Specifically, the appointee will demonstrate the following qualities:

  1. A vocationally trained and accredited GP, preferably with MRCGP;
  1. A good knowledge of and interest in general practice and primary care;
  1. Initiative, creativity and motivation;
  1. A collegial team spirit and feel comfortable in a strongly multidisciplinary team environment;
  1. Able to take a consultative approach to their work, appropriately involving relevant people;
  1. A good working knowledge and interest in national primary care strategies and ideas on how to implement these for the development of the Practice;
  1. Be able to put the needs of the Practice and Team ahead of individual needs at busy times, periods of increased workloads (QOF assessment, flu campaigns, sickness absences or unplanned leave etc.). Respond in a flexible way to fluctuations in workload;
  1. The Post-holder will be expected to demonstrate the ability to focus on long-term strategic goals rather than short-term issues / details;

 

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. Fully trained GP registered with GMC.
  1. Current and full driving licence             

 

  1. Any outstanding or pending penalties or prosecutions must be disclosed and stated on application or as they occur after start of employment

 

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. Higher post graduate membership, for example, MRCGP / nMRCGP, MRCP, DRCOG, DCH
  1. Family Planning to include LARC (Long Acting Reversible Contraception) fitting and removal of IUCD’s
  1. Minor surgery / joint injections.

 

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  1. Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team;
  1. Ability to work with limited supervision;
  1. Understanding of the pressures faced by GPs and healthcare teams;
  1. Willingness to contribute to and participate in a peer support group;
  1. Current registration with the GMC and appropriate representation with a recognised medical defence organisation;
  1. Current DBS check (undertaken less than 6 months before the date of appointment);
  1. Strong levels of IT proficiency and familiarity with primary care clinical systems (the Practice currently uses SystmOne). Experience in using the Microsoft suite of programmes;
  1. Proven ability to offer support within a clinical team and share learning points in Practice meetings;
  1. Ability to draft cogent, error-free letters and reports in a timely manner;
  1. A good understanding of GMS contracting requirements and the operation of the Quality Outcomes Framework process (QOF).

DESIRABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. A specialist interest in e.g. family planning, paediatrics, minor surgery
  1. Fitting / removal of IUCDs
  1. Experience of delivering QOF objectives
  1. Experience of service redesign.
