The offer is being provided by University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust and Bournemouth & Poole College.

The role of a healthcare support worker is vital – it keeps the NHS running smoothly. No two days are the same as a healthcare support worker. This role supports patients through their treatment, sharing their experiences and making a real difference to their journey back to health.

You will learn more about this fantastic career and the opportunities it brings. There are 30 different types of healthcare support worker roles within the NHS which can lead to endless career options!

At the end of the five-week programme, scholarship attendees will be offered a guaranteed job interview! If successful at interview you’ll get the chance to join the team as a Healthcare Support Worker, working on a starting salary of £22,816 with the potential career pathway to become a nurse, midwife, or allied health professional.

Being a Healthcare Support Worker is a great starting point in the NHS. It’ll give you a taste of what a career in healthcare is really like, open your eyes to the different roles you might want to work towards and allow you to gain plenty of skills and experience.

A caring and compassionate nature is essential to the role but you’ll also need to have good communication skills, be good at problem solving and also be able to make quick decisions.
