About the Role:
We are looking for a self-employed Personal Care Assistant to work 14.5 hours per week plus be cover for when the other carer is off sick or is on holiday. The role of the carer is to provide support to our Client who has COPD and suffers occasionally with bouts of gout.The Client requires help and support in making decisions and have control over their day to day living. Client uses a walking stick and wheelchair.

Days, times, duties:
Mon: 12-30pm - 3:00pm, to make lunch, check post, make calls if required (GP appointments, vets etc) prep tea.
Tue: 6pm - 7 pm, to heat/cook dinner, soak and cream feet.
Wed: 12:30pm - 2:30pm, to make lunch, out to supermarket/bank/health appointments, prep tea
Thurs: 12:30pm - 2:30pm, to make lunch, laundry, change bed, weekend shopping list. 6pm -7pm, to heat/cook tea, soak and cream feet
Fri: 11:30pm - 2:30pm, to meal prep for weekend including lunch, support/prompt water change for fish, chase any outstanding life.

Weekends: Saturday and Sunday, AM visits – 45 minutes and PM visits – 30 minutes 

There is some flexibility around the times; for example, it could be 11:30am - 1:30pm or 12pm – 2pm and the evening calls could be 5pm-6pm etc.


Additional duties will include but not limited to: Admin (meter readings, repeat prescriptions etc). Light cleaning on each visit, such as wiping down of sides, vacuum if required, check laundry. Ask/encourage nebuliser use. Check heating is set to 21 in winter months Encourage fluid intake and include Client in meal choices and meal preparation such as peeling and chopping veg.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous PA experience in a similar role is essential and knowledge and/or experience of COPD and gout advantageous
  • Must have patience, enjoy socialising and be reliable
  • Confident to be directive as and when required
  • Full, valid driving license essential
  • DBS Check will be required
  • Legally Able to Work in UK
  • Provide evidence of self-employment such as Public Liability Insurance, Terms and Conditions, tax reference number.
