University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust

£84559 - £114003

We recently went into partnership with Bournemouth University and, with the merger of Poole Hospital and Royal Bournemouth & Christchurch Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts, became University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust this is a really exciting time to join us!

Our ambitious multi-million pound plans to develop our sites are well underway, including developing RBH as the major acute and emergency hospital in East Dorset, PH as the major planned care hospital, and ambitious plans for Christchurch to support on-going patient treatment.

Joining UHD gives you the opportunity to enjoy all that Dorset has to offer. Bournemouth is a vibrant university town , and Poole has a large natural harbour and is perfect for water sports or relaxing at a quayside restaurant.

With both the New Forest and Isle of Purbeck on our doorstep, over 7 miles of stunning sandy beaches and coastal paths, we are located within an area of amazing beauty providing a great place for you to achieve your rewarding work life balance.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics (with a specialist interest in hand surgery) to join the Trauma and Orthopaedics Directorate at University Hospitals Dorset (UHD).

Trauma and Orthopaedics at UHD is a large and well established service. Trauma and paediatric surgery is undertaken on the Poole site, which is the largest fragility fracture centre in Europe with over 1200 patients attending per year requiring Neck of Femur surgery and a trauma bed base of over 100 beds. Elective orthopaedics is undertaken at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital with a dedicated ring fenced orthopaedic facility (the Derwent), which is supported by high acuity capacity in the main hospital. Elective operating capacity has recently been expanded with the establishment of a third theatre at the Derwent.

Key to the success and future of the Trauma and Orthopaedics Directorate are the close working relationships with the Dorset Integrated Care System, the UHD Strategy and Transformation Directorate and the Institute of Orthopaedic Research at Bournemouth University.

The team take pride in the application of GIRFT principles and have a dedicated programme for continuous improvement. The Directorate has developed a cultural change programme to support merger and the integration of services through the “T&Ogether” programme; supporting an inclusive and engaged workforce committed to the development of high quality services.
