An exciting post has become available for a Research Nurse to work within the Oncology Research Department, based at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, University Hospitals Dorset Trust.

The Oncology Research Department is very active at UHD offering trials in breast, colorectal, urology, upper GI, head and neck, skin and lung cancers. The post holder will work closely with the Senior Cancer Research Nurses, Cancer Nurse Specialists, Cancer Nurse Practitioners, and Consultants to manage clinical research trials in cancer.

The successful candidate would ideally have significant experience in oncology, and up to date knowledge of cancer treatments. Previous clinical research experience would also be an advantage. You will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients participating in clinical trials. This will involve the identification, recruitment, education and monitoring of trial patients and the collection and documentation of accurate data. You will be required to prioritise your own workload and be responsible for the management of a caseload of clinical trial patients. You will be required to work autonomously and will also be responsible for identifying new Research opportunities, coordinating and managing a number of clinical trials.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate good communication skills, be able to work independently and as part of a team, be highly organised, flexible, have good attention to detail and have the ability to adapt your working day according to what opportunities arise.

The post will be predominantly working within the oncology team, however there will be a need to be flexible in your working approach, and to provide cross-cover and collaboration within the Division where required and possibly other Research Divisions.

This post is advertised as a Band 6 however if the successful applicant does not fulfil the person specification, we may offer it as a Band 5 with progression to a Band 6 when certain competencies are met – (we would expect this to occur within 6 -18 months).
